Periodically throughout summer I will be opening up my house and inviting the teens and their friends over to my house to watch faith based films. We will watch the movie then discuss it. There is a lot more than meets the eye with all of these movies.

The most advanced way of making a point to someone in Jesus day was by telling a parable. Jesus told about 60 parables, and many people didn’t understand what he was saying at the moment, but after they thought about it for a while they knew. Today movies are the most advanced way of making a point in the 21st century: look at movies like “Super Size Me” or even “Star Wars”. These movies make you think about things you wouldn’t normally think about and they take you places you would never image simultaneously getting a point across to the audience by telling a story.

I pray that your teen will be able to make it over to our house when we open it up, and feel free to let them bring a friend or 5. I really want to pack the place out every night! If you have any questions just let me know!

S.I.T.S.

We are going to Summer In The Son (S.I.T.S.) which is held at Kentucky Christian University. I have never been to this event but I have heard many good things about it and I have always wanted to take my middle school group. I hope to answer some questions you may have about this trip so that you will have a better picture of what S.I.T.S. will be like.

When and where is S.I.T.S.? It is at Kentucky Christian University on July 11th-16th.

What about the lodging at S.I.T.S.? Everyone will be staying in college dorm rooms. Our guys and girls each have separate dorms where they will stay.

What about the food at S.I.T.S.? They will be eating in the dining center on campus. They offer a ton of choices for each meal. The cost for each meal is included in the price you pay for conference.

WOW that sounds really cool, what will S.I.T.S be like?

What if...

In one week of your life, in the middle of nowhere, you could find the Center of everything. Somebody named Jacob was surprised to find it in the wilderness as he slept outside on a rock pillow. A guy named Moses was surprised to find it in a burning bush in the middle of the desert. Shepherds were surprised to find it one chilly night in an animal's feeding trough.

...And hundreds of students are surprised to find it every summer in Grayson Kentucky. Not religion. Not childish answers to real questions. Not guilt and condemnation.

They find God.

Summer in the Son is a designed to be a powerful week where middle school students are invited into the presence of God through great music, thought-provoking messages, interaction with other students and adults. And then, like every encounter with God, it's designed to change things for every week thereafter.

They will have a familiar artist – Aaron Pelsue leading them in worship along with Eric Timm, Remedy Drive, and Illusionist - Danny Ray

The speaker for the week is Danny Curry who is a captivating speaker that teaches God’s truth with passion. He combines a straightforward style with humorous applications to real life.

S.I.T.S IS GOING TO BE SWEET!!!

The cost is $225 – Make sure they participate in the 2 fundraisers we do before this event. If money is the thing that will keep them from coming, tell them to get a job and I’ll help them figure out the rest! Don’t let CASH be the reason why they sit at home and dream about all the fun we are having!!

Today I registered for this event for 12 total people – if we have more that’s not a big deal, but let me know asap if you can make this trip so I can start keeping track of things.

They will love this week!

CIY-MOVE

I am really looking forward to this summer. We are going to CIY MOVE which will have over 20,000 students at 24 different conferences! It’s hard to even describe MOVE because it is so intense. No really in tents ^ ! I’ve tried to look at some questions you might have and help give you a better picture of what MOVE will be like.

What week and where are we going for MOVE? We are going to Tennessee 6 at Lee University on July 25th – 29th.

Are we doing anything else besides going to MOVE? Yes we are going white water rafting! The cost for this is in the total amount for the event.

What about the lodging at MOVE? Let’s start with where they will stay. Everyone will be staying in college dorm rooms. Our guys and girls each have separate dorms where they will stay.

So what do we do every day at MOVE? Each day starts off with a session called Encounter that introduces the theme of the day and what Scripture has to say about it. After listening to a speaker, they will go out and do thier own devotion (using the booklet) on the theme. From there the students go into D-Groups, which is basically a group of 10-12 students and an adult teacher that explores the day’s theme more deeply. The lessons provide a lot of interaction and discussion without a ton of lecture. In the early afternoon there is either a General Session where everyone gathers together to hear a comedian or other speaker or an elective class time with several different options for you to choose from. The rest of the afternoon is free time. There is no organized recreation at MOVE. They will be able to do anything from join a pick-up game of basketball to take a nap or hang out with thier friends. After free time and dinner, begins the evening session. The worship is incredible! MOVE flies in speakers from all over the country, and they are always challenging and interesting. After the evening session, we will go and have a discussion time with just our youth group. It is the last thing of the day, and we get a chance to talk about the way that God was able to move in our lives throughout day. This is probably one of the best times of the day. Then it’s back to the dorms to try and get rested and ready to go again!

Thursday afternoon is a little different. We will have a half day of extended recreation. We will have some things planned for the afternoon, and we will get out and look at some cool things in the area.

Things You Need To Know…
1. Registration and payment deadline is March 15, 2010. T
2. The maximum capacity for this event is 250 people. First come, first served.
3. There are individual registration forms for youth and sponsors (separate) below.
4. Registration will take place in Heritage Hall – Room 217 starting at 5:30 pm.
Dorms will be open to you at 5:30 pm. There will be no admittance to rooms prior to 5:30 pm.
5. You are required to bring sponsors, but are limited to one sponsor for every 3-5 youth you are bringing. Excess sponsors will not be allowed to attend. We want as many spaces as possible for youth to be able to attend the event. If you have girls and boys attending, we ask that there be at least one male and one female sponsor. A sponsor must stay with the youth at all times during the event and all injuries should be reported immediately to Jason Woolard, Julie Fields, or Garrett Lewis.
6. This event is not designed for young children, therefore we ask that you DO NOT bring any children that are not in high school (this includes infants).

8. The event begins Friday evening with registration at 5:30 pm and will end at the closing of Sunday’s session around 11:30 am.

LAUNCH 09

Launch – is coming up this event is for middle school students. It is February 19-20th. Last year we had 15 go – and everyone had a blast! I will have a sign up sheet at the youth table on Sunday. Check this website out or contact me if you need to know more!!!

Launch is a convention designed with middle school students in mind. No longer a child and just beginning to enter the teen years, middle school can be a turbulent time in a student’s life both socially and spiritually. Launch is designed to be an oasis of sorts for these students during the school year. Encouraging speakers, powerful worship and top notch entertainment acts (like KJ-52, Emmy Award Winning Taylor Mason to name a few). This is an incredible weekend that allows teens students to grow closer to one another and more importantly, grow closer God.

SERVE'EM 4

I can't believe that this will be our 4th Serve'em activity! I am really looking forward to this one too!!!

Now you may think this is a stupid way to serve, but its a big way. On Saturday June the 13 we will be doing trash detail. I told her to put in a place that she needed the most help, and this is it. I am really excited about taking this burden off her shoulders.

She has slotted us in for the 11-4 shift on Saturday June 13.

They need 10-15 student to come out.

They will provide the gloves and cans, you keep the trash emptied and new liners in the cans- we will haul the trash away.

We will be parking at the University of Richmond in the Special events lot near the Robins Center. But, due to construction at U of R, the games will be held at St. Christopher’s- we will ride a shuttle (10 minutes) to St. Chris.

I really believe that this is going to be one of the best service events we have done so far!

SERVE'EM 3

This Sunday the youth group is scheduled to go to a nursing home. We will be going to the nursing/rehab center near Chesterfield Towne Center (The Laurels at Willow Creek). We have spoken with the volunteer coordinator (Pam Cheatham), and explained what we would like to do. She is really looking forward to having us come out and interact with the residence.

We have told them that we will be there on Sunday, April the 3rd, from 1:30-3. We will be playing 10-13 games of B-I-N-G-O with the residence. Who doesn’t love B-I-N-G-O?

The teens will expected to:
1. Go around and help the residents with their cards
2. Call out the numbers
3. Socialize with them

This sounds like a really fun time for the teens and for the residence there! We will make their day with this event, and I look forward to doing more with this community. I want everyone to meet at the M.C. at 1:00 and we will go from there to Willow Creek. Be ready to pick them back up from the M.C. by 3:30.

Matthew 20:28, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Sunday at the MC

This coming Sunday is the youth group’s 2nd service project - “SERVE’EM”. It will be at the ministry center from 1-4. Bring good attitudes and be ready to get to know some new people.

Something to make sure your teen understands is that these people are PEOPLE. They are picky, passionate and they do have feelings. They need attention from other the same way that we do. They are made in the image of God just like we are, and we need to love them just as God does!
We are planning having 12 men and 4 ladies from a special needs home. They will be accompanied by 4-5 staff members.

We will start out with a “meet and greet time” for about 45 minutes. Then we will eat some lunch with them from Ci-ci's pizza. Then the guys are going to play some kick ball and the girls are going to be pampered with all kinds’ girly stuff.

This is going to be a really good time. These people love people and love attention. Last time we had them come over we had a blast just getting to know them and seeing what they are passionate about. I really like the staff and everyone is really friendly. This type of service is so personal because the youth will be serving with their attention and interest in an individual.
